Our vision is to be a community resource where everyone in need has access to clean, appropriate clothing, regardless of income or circumstance, where individuals leave with confidence and a renewed sense of hope.
Our mission is to restore dignity and meet basic needs by providing free, new, and gently used clothing to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship. We are meeting the needs of our Kansas City metro, building community and offering hope - one garment at a time.
We're working to provide free, accessible clothing in a welcoming environment, removing financial and social barriers while fostering community connection.

Many individuals and families lack access to adequate clothing due to poverty, job loss, housing instability, or crisis. Clothing insecurity affects personal dignity, health, school attendance, and employment opportunities. This problem is even more prevalent in the current economic climate.

Community Threads KC was born out of a deep conviction that no one should have to go without the basics. Our founder has seen firsthand the gap between the need for clothing assistance and the experience people had when trying to access it. The vision for Community Threads KC was different from the start: a place that felt like a community.
We are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, built on volunteer power and community generosity, serving the Kansas City metro area with free clothing for individuals and families who need it most.

Our leadership team is committed to transparency, sustainability, and putting clients first in every decision we make. Our team has expertise and passion spanning nonprofit management, finance, legal affairs, and community service.
Transparency and accountability matter to us. We track our impact carefully, including the number of individuals served, items distributed, and outcomes achieved. Then, we publish our findings so our donors, partners, and community can see the difference their support makes.
In partnership together, we can reach more people and strengthen the fabric of our community.
Our volunteers are the heart of everything we do. No experience needed, just a willingness to support.
Clean out your closets to support your community. We accept new and gently used clothing for all ages.
Community Threads KC runs on community - and that means people like you. Whether you have a few hours to spare, a closet to clean out, or a business that wants to make a difference, we'd love to have your support.
